Why are there no articles before "room" and "growth" in "There was room for growth"? This is a specific situation

In this context, room and growth are uncountable nouns.

As Chris says, they are describing something general and not countable. "There was room for growth in the new company." If you put an article before "room", for example "a room" or "the room", then "room" becomes a specific thing like a bedroom or a bathroom, and the statement doesn't make sense.
