Hello, friends!
I have a question about phrasal verbs : back off away back away. Both have the same meaning - when someone takes small steps back.
Tell me, please, what is the difference between the use of these two verbs?
Thank you in advance!
"Back away" describes a physical motion away from something or someone. "Back off" is more figurative. It means deciding to not get involved in an activity or a situation.

Back away sounds more neutral, while back off sounds like a kind of a retreat. You might back off from a snake, or someone yelling at you.
