What does " heavy" mean in the sentence below?
She didn't want things to get too heavy at such an early stage stage of their relationship.

I think it means serious.

In this context heavy means: intense, serious or emotionally deep.
Why the word heavy? metaphorically, something intense, serious or emotionally complex can be a burden. To have a deep relationship, other parts of her life would have to change and she's not prepared for that, yet.
Also: the word stage shouldn't be repeated.
