This morning, I woke up with a sore throat. It was hard to eat breakfast because it hurt when I swallowed. At first, I thought it was just because of dry air. But then I noticed that many of my friends also had sore throats and raspy voices. Maybe a cold is going around. Today, I drank a lot of water and tried to rest as much as I could. I will go to bed early tonight to help my body recover. I really hope I feel better tomorrow. Being sick during summer break is the worst!

“But” is a coordinating conjunction, a conjunction that you use to link two sentences. You use them by putting a comma at the end of the first sentence, then the coordinating conjunction, and then the second sentence. You can use the acronym “FANBOYS” to memorize the seven coordinating conjunctions: for, and, not, but, or, yet, and so.
