There is a rule in adjectives you could remember, so you would understand how adjectives are ranked in order:
opinion, size, age, shape, colour, origin, material, purpose
I remember this using the abbreviation: OSASCOMP
Cute - Opinion
Little - Size
Thing - Material/Thing
So ‘Cute little thing’ is grammatically correct :)

Both are correct. I prefer "cute little thing" because "cute" is the more important adjective. To emphasize it, it should go first. If you omit "little" the meaning hardly changes but if you omit "cute" the meaning is entirely lost.
