In my country we never celebrate of Halloween at all, actually most of people never heard about it. Due to all people in my country Libya are Muslims, so we have our celebration days, we call them Eids. But I never know why people dress up in this day a scary customs, then children go to neighbors to collect candies, I just know about these details because I watch a lot of American series and movies.

In my country, we never celebrate Halloween at all. Actually, most of people have never heard of it. As everyone in my country, Libya, is Muslim, we have our own celebrations. We call them Eids. But I have never understood why people dress up on this day for this scary custom. Then, children go to their neighbors to collect candy. I just know about these details because I watch a lot of American series and movies.
Halloween is just a tradition. There is not a good reason why we do it. It just fun, and you can dress up as someone else for a day. Plus, who doesn’t like candy? Not everything about Halloween is scary, but obviously you can choose to do something that will scare you like go to a haunted house or watch a scary movie, but there are other things that are not scary like carving a Jack-o-lantern 🎃 or going to a corn maze.

I’m not really sure of the origins but I think that it’s because of “dia de los muertos” or day of the dead which is celebrated in Mexico around the same time. On this day, spirits of relatives come alive. It’s more of a day of celebration than mourning. In the united states, It’s more of a “hallmark holiday” which means It doesn’t really commemorate anything. We just do it, and have competitions with friends for how much candy we can get and we wear random costumes. We usually pick costumes based on what we are interested in. Sadly, I’m growing too old for halloween so no more candy for me :(
