How can you describe Russian language?

It was always very interesting for me how does Russian language sounds for foreign people. For example for me:

French is soft and romantic

Chinese is  fast

Italian is expressive and passionate and so on.

But what about russian?

@Alexander, typical, rather stereotypical perspective you harbour regarding foreign languages. Many Brits tend to think that nothing is as 'pure' as English (the language), whereas, a little research will reveal what a hotchpotch English actually is, with different elements from various foreign languages.

European Portuguese sounds a lot like Russian, Brazilian Portuguese much less so.

For decades, there has been a Hollywood cliche that creepy villains - gangsters and James Bond-style baddies - have Russian accents. So, unfortunately, generations of cinema-goers have grown up thinking that Russian sounds sinister.

My  friends from Brazil say Russian sounds very close to Portuguese. Actually, recalling brazilan soap operas on TV, and the feeling that we can understand every phrase without translation - so emotional and so much in common with Russians, I agree. :)

I love the way Russian sounds. I think it’s a very versatile sounding language like English. It's easy to hear different emotions the Russian language. However I must say before I met my girlfriend, and started learning the language, every language sounded like noise to me, and ugly.

I like so much the language Russian, since when I saw one picture in a book of history during the school. I tried to learn it, I yet will try again. The Russian language sounds like mysterious.
