Exploring space does improve people's lives.  We would not have FMRI technology if it wasn't for space.  That technology helps a whole lot of people identify and treat cancer as well as other ailments.

We would not have microchips had it not been for space exploration.  I think I don't even need to go into how important that is with modern technology.

We would not have lasers were it not for space exploration.  That can be used to perform complex medical procedures.  We would not have smoke detectors.  I wonder how many lives that technology saves per year?

I can write pages on this.  It's absolutely silly to say that space exploration doesn't benefit people's lives or we have to choose one or the other.  Simply false.
