What makes you lose motivation in learning a language?

I can't believe this discussion didn't get more replies, especially since quitting a language is one of the most common things going on in any language learning community. Even the people who have achieved a decent level of proficiency in many languages have one or two where they simply couldn't make it—they just don't admit it because it doesn't make for good "polyglot marketing". Seriously, I would like to see some stats about this…

As for me, what makes me lose motivation is mainly realizing that there is not enough material in my target language on the internet. And I don't mean language courses, I mean real-life media created by native speakers: films, books, music, youtube channels, podcasts, articles, conferences, lecures, speeches, debates, university lessons, etc.

My biggest obstacle to motivation is MYSELF! I find with every day I don't study, the next day is harder. Keeping a solid schedule is essential to maintaining motivation, if I just studed "whenever I feel like it" it would be very difficult.

Like everyone I'm lazy, and I have to force myself to begin every day at my scheduled time. The first five minutes of study are the hardest, during that time I just want to watch Youtube videos, not learn vocabulary and read difficult texts. But after that, the next hour or two are easy. If I can force myself to sit down and start, studying is relatively effortless.

Christmas! It may same a strange thing to say, but it's true. Within a couple of weeks time almost all of the native Spanish speakers I know will be returning home for the festive season and I won't have anyone to meet with and chat with :(

I'll have to book some flights to Spain :)

1. It may sound rather simple, but if you don't have a strong 'WHY', a strong reason of why you are learning, you'll more likely to lose motivation.

2. The second thing what makes me lose movivation is when I try to read/listen to complicated materials when I'm not ready.
