I'm not a poet or an English major, but I love reading poetry, so thanks for posting it.  It is wonderful.

     This poem has a depressing, hopeless feeling.  It is a freezing, possibly rainy (rippled water) dark night. All of the stores are closed. The light doesn't comfort, it just further illuminates the lonliness of the scene.  

     Even in 25 years, it will be the same.  There is no reason to try to change the world or to change your life, because it will alwys end up being dark, cold, lonley.

     Maybe it can show how at the end of your life, no matter how much you have accomplished, no matter how vigorously you lived and loved, it doesn't matter. You die alone and cold.

     What do you think the poem means?

I don't quite understand... did he write in English, or is this a translation?

The main thing that strikes me about the poem is the depth of pessimism suggested by the idea that <em>even if you die and are re-incarnated</em>, nothing will change and nothing will be any better.

We, Russians, endured history’s deadliest siege (Leningrad), deadliest battle (Stalingrad), and deadliest invasion (Operation Barbarossa). We just don’t give up. Moreover, we stay united even after civil wars and economic trauma. The two greatest virtues of Russians are loyalty and resolve. When you’re facing tough times, think of Russia, stay strong, and keep going.

"Russia cannot be understood with the mind alone, no ordinary yardstick can span her greatness: she stands alone, unique—in Russia, one can only believe.", wrote the Russian poet (and diplomat) Fyodor Tyutchev.

It shows the characters of Russian depression. People who learn it often discuss why russian like it from history.

Because that is not only reflected on poem. On music they like use depressing feeling let people cant breath. It is basic feeling from deep idology. It is like sear going into the national history. It is not about how they happy now, So the author may not be so sad just got bored to sing up the poem.

Sorry to describe it on these words but you can analysis how is it in the state,  It is also beautiful like epic to unfold the pome.It is interesting to study on it due like analysis always need object.

And can know how the author realized the idea of priori logic from experience and have the idea like transmigration. It often happened on a nation’s long history of cause you should know you are in the his-tory so that is why connected you.
