What kind of language learning goals do you set?

The only ones that comes to mind for me are being able to finish a book in Spanish & having a conversation with a stranger on the street using my Spanish.

Do you set similar goals or are your goals more focused on taking a certain number of classes & language exchanges per week? Or more specific language goals like learning 20 verbs a week or learning to count to 100 in your target language?

Well, I want to learn to write at least 100 kanjis (Japanese ideograms) this year. They're so difficult.

I want to improve my speaking because I speak too slowly, not fluently. I guess I need more practice. In general, I want to improve my Japanese.

I also want to improve my accent in English. It sounds a little weird and sometimes I can't pronounce the words.

My real weakness in German is vocabulary, so I'm trying to set a daily time goal to study my vocabulary list.  I say ''trying'' because I'm still not consistent unfortunately. It just gets really boring.

I also just set a new goal for myself which is a little weird, but it may help you in your goal to talk to a stranger in your target language.  I love dogs, so my new goal is 3 times per week to walk up to someone with a dog and ask to pet the dog.  Which always starts a conversation, as people love talking about their dogs.  And where I live about 30% of the people on the street have dogs, so plenty of chances.

Of course, this only works if you are someplace where you are reasonably sure the ''stranger'' speaks the language you want to practice.  :-)

A few that I thought of:

Find a language partner or pen-pal

Post a notebook entry X times per week

Do one skype call per week with a language partner

Take one lesson per week

Study one hour per day

Record myself speaking and ask for feedback

i would like to hear from others what goals they have related to vocabulary.
