Lebanon vs Jordan (Arabic Study)

I`m debating between Jordan or Lebanon in regards to studying Arabic. Am planning on going in two months and was wondering what would be the best country to immerse the language as much as possible. I`d appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi Erik, while I cannot say much about Lebanon I know Jordan has a bit of a reputation for being a good place to study Arabic. One of my friends has recently been accepted into a program there. Perhaps the only thing I can offer, is I believe the living expenses in Jordan might be higher; even then I am not 100% sure. Another thought, I have studied a 2-month program in Oman and found it was very beneficial. Just in case you needed another country to decide on ;)

I just finished a 6-month Arabic program in Jordan, and my impression is that I made the right choice compared to Lebanon.

Jordan and Lebanon are both great countries to study Arabic language for different reasons: they have proper language institutions, and well-reputated in the Arabic world when it comes to Arabic literature. The only difference about learnign Arabic language in an Arabic country is the accent, and here comes the part which you should consider, since you will engage with people in your daily activities outside the learning center. For me, I guess Lebanese accent is easier to grasp by new learners than Jordanian accent. Lebanese and Egyptian accents are the easiest among the diversified Arabic accents. So it would be easier for you to catch new words in Lebanon than Jordan, though they have a bit similar accent, but Lebanese is easier and simpler.

I come from Yemen, and been my whole life in the gulf states, the accent is totally different than other Arabic countries, more rigid.

so the accent of people you are engaing with, really matter, the simple the accent is, the easier for you to grasp new words, and expand your communication premise.

Hiya, I am from Iraq and I visted both countries for work and leisure. I would say in Jordan you will have to use more Arabic if you are out and about than if you were in Lebanon. Safety wise Jordan is much safer and less hassle, Lebanon could be more adventurous and exciting.
