Japanese Entertainment Recommendations

So, for the past couple weeks, I have decided that I would like to start learning Japanese seriously. I have been doing a lot of research in language learning and one word seems to be a common denominator in most sources: immersion. They tell you to "immerse" yourself in the language by taking in as much of the language as you can, and in my case, that's Japanese. The number one suggestion for immersion is going to the country. Since I won't be going anytime soon, and I assume at least some of you guys aren't going to Japan, immersion might seem out of reach, especially since there are literally no native Japanese speakers outside of Japan. However, the sources suggest that if you can't go to the country, I should watch and listen to a lot of entertainment from that country, and that's what I've been doing. I currently watch a smattering of anime, a J-drama, and hilarious Japanese game shows via YouTube.

Though I have a good selection of anime and Japanese TV, I just don't know which ones are good; and backtrack even more, I don't even know where to start! I do have a Crunchyroll and Funimation membership, so I do get some anime and J-drama, but seriously, I can only watch so many One Piece episodes in a row, and frankly, some of the J-dramas on Crunchyroll are...well...つまらない。

Additionally, just watching Japanese TV isn't enough for me. I want more. I have been on the hunt for great Japanese music, but to no avail. I've only been finding Japanese rock, and I mean 95% of the songs that I have found so far are rock. I admit, some are pretty good and have a tune worthy of rocking out to, but sometimes, I just want to listen to something different.

I don't know if there are others out there who are having the same trouble as me, but I'd like to make this space open for any suggestions on Japanese entertainment. Saw an awesome Japanese movie? Please share! Heard a chill J-tune? Tell us the title! I would love it if we could all share all the Japanese movies, TV shows, music, and even books that we enjoy.

So please share your favorite Japanese-related entertainment! We are all trying to learn Japanese; we might as well help each other out on the way :D

Feel free to movie/TV/books titles, links to YouTube or free Japanese related videos, etc. Let's immerse ourselves in Japanese culture!

For songs, I usually listen, understand them until memorize the op and ending of animes, jdrama/movie songs. Try listen to Atsushi Exile's songs, honey l days, mamoru miyano's 'how close you are', flumpool, yuzu, mika nikashima..Argh so many to recall!

I learns japanese a lot from watching jdrama a lot rather than anime( since I need more focus for anime :D). Luckily my family also favor jdrama and movies.

Suggestion of drama (comedies) :  Nobunaga concerto, monster (cast by yamapi and shingo katori), bitter blood, date, my boss my hero, tamiou, don quixote, detroit metal city, risou to musuko, switch girl, samurai sensei, omotesandou koukou, water boys (1-5).. there's a lot more! As the dramas that CJ C already mentioned too.

I also watch their variety show (SMAPxSMAP),stage plays etc.

I quite slacking when it comes to the katakana and kanji. For me, learn to talk/speak first, when you're quite familiar with their words, their dialects then start reading. No rush, yet you enjoy it!

But, yeah, I'm still a beginner and need more guidance from anybody here ><

I like YUI, Kiroro and Ayumi Hamasaki's songs. Other than that, I usually listen to any anime's opening or ending theme songs. Loved it! Though good songs or movies is subjective, I'd like to recommend you with the legendary Kiroro's song to start with i.e "Miraie" and "Bestfriend". Then YUI's "Goodbye days" from the movie Taiyou no Uta. Ahh, I just love reminiscing these. Feel free to message me if you need more! :D
