"I got you" ??
Morning everybody,
I have lately heard the phrase "I got you" in a song and suddenly I realized that I've never thought about its meaning...so would anyone explane me? I don't get it, though everybody seems to say it. thx for your time

It depends on how it's used it can mean "I'm here for you" or "i understand you"

It has multiple meanings
To understand what someone is saying to you, often agreeing with them (but not always)
To claim that you have someone to yourself, someone is 'yours' (in a positive way) - 'I got you babe'(song)
To get the better of someone, for example if you are about to win a game, you can say 'I got you' or 'I got you now'
As got is the past tense of get, it could also mean that you understood what someone said to you earlier. I got you (I understood what you said yesterday)
