I think a lot of Chinese learners are interested in how to pick a Chinese name, so I'm here for some advice.
A Chinese name is constituted by surname and given name.
Commonly, the surname is less than two characters and the given name is less than three characters.
About surname you guys can search ' 百家姓' from Google, and choose one. For example, if your English name is Lucas then you could choose '陆', '鲁' or '卢' as your surname. Their pronunciations are 'Lu' sounds like your English name. Or if you like summer then you can pick '夏' or pick '白' if you like white as your surname.
Some characters are more suited to boys like '强', '志', '国', '震' etc. and some to girls like '静', '萍', '姝', '雯' etc.
I hope this helpful for you guys who want a Chinese name. Leave your message if you need some help. : )
Choicing a name of Chinese star who is not famous.
Forget the limits.
The use of name is remember. If most Chinese remember your name and They think it's a nice name. That's enough.
I gave you a Chinese name 林志炫(lin2 zhi4 xuan4)
I choose 150 Chinese names for my students every year. I don't have a set formula, but when it comes to choosing surnames, I take their actual surname (not given name) and try to match the first syllable with a similar-sounding Chinese surname. For example:
Surname: Hernandez, Herrera, Henry --> Chinese surname: 何
Surname: Martinez, Marcus, Manning --> Chinese surname: 马
Surname: Sanchez, Sanders, Sandoval --> Chinese surname: 沙
Surname: Vargas, Washington, Watson --> Chinese surname: 王(Chinese doesn't have the "V" sound, so all V-surnames become W-surnames in Chinese)
