Everybody know that women's day is a commemoration day for the fire in the factory in New York city in which many women died. As commemoration, in Italy, in 1946 some politician women choose the mimosa flower, because it blooms in march and because at that time it was not expensive at all. Plus the italian partisans used to give the mimosa to the female courier during the II World War.
So if you are in Italy the 8th march and you want to make a gift to a woman, this is the traditional way to do it, full of history and meaning for women independence and rights.
The italian sentence to buy a mimosa bunch is:
"Salve, vorrei (comprare) un mazzo di mimose. Vorrei quello lì, grazie!"
"Hello, i would like to buy a mimosa bunch. I like that one, thanks!"
I'm curious to know what other country traditionally give to women this day and why, hope somebody will answer here ;)
