Some of the other students will want to meet you and learn about China.
They will ask you to be friends with them.
These are the people who really want to be your good friend.
I am sure you will meet many nice people and some will become your a friend.

Well, if you are in their country, you are a foreigner. If you are at a college or university, they normally have a few international mixers to help people come together who share the same mix of feelings about being in a new country and in a new culture.
If you are into sports, join a local league. Into book/reading try the local library and join a book club. This can help you start to meet people face 2 face so you can get comfortable with the new environment.

I agree with Jesse, facebook groups are great. Try student groups, international/expat groups and language exchange groups. Also see if there are any clubs you might want to join at university, there might be an international club or a sports club etc. Good luck :)

Facebook has always been the best way to solve this problem for me. For example at my university there were many facebook groups whose only purpose was to allow foreign people to meet others. so maybe check that out! :)) Hope this helped, best of luck!
