Giving your blood for transfusion

Have you ever given your blood for transfusion? Or at least going to? Why have you done it?

I found in one study that people are driven by different type of motivation, not internal and not external. I'm curious what it is. I tryed twice, but in both cases it was to help someone I new, nothing extraordinary.

I donated for 40 years. I did it because I have a rare blood group that was needed for certain recipients.  In my country we are not paid for our blood donations. However, two of my family members' lives were saved due to the blood they received.  I think it is a worthwhile thing to do as it is always needed whether it is a rare type or not.

I used to do it many times, for free, just wanted to help someone. I would continue with it if I was healthy.

I am not yet. But it is more because I feel lazy or something seemed. Here in Brazil there a lot of campaigns and most of companies consider as a justified absence if you go to a laboratory to donate blood.

If one close friend or immediate/extended familiar needs a blood transfusion I will help.
