What do you think are the most valuable and noticable differences between American and British humour? Why do people like one of them and don't understand another one? Which one do you prefer?

I think that American humour is easier to understand . British is sounds sarkastic sometimes

I am English and my wife is American. My son loves American humour and I do not. I obviously prefer traditional British humour (not humor) . i do not understand modern American humour.
