Hi fellow Mandarin learners,
Do any other Mandarin Chinese learners have advice about improving memorisation of the tones for each individual word(I already know the 5 basic tones) and also memorising how to write the more complicated Chinese characters(that have more than 6 strokes) as I have the most difficulty with these when learning Mandarin.
Sorry but I can't accept any more requests from people wanting to be my language partner as even though it is kind I already have many language partners.
Any advice is appreciated,
Thanks.
Hi Tamara,u may use bais advices,BUT ... remember she is native :-)
... so it will be very difficult for you to judge whose mandarin is good or not ...
there are so many dialects and slangs in china u wont imagine
try to find your way to memorize tones, but maybe think about skipping the tones like i did ... 90% of your chinese will be understood by context(my experience)
the main problem is(a native may never give you this idea :-) .... that it depends on the person u wanna talk to ... if you are in china u may find many people who will say wo ting bu dong(i dont understand you) even if u are an expereinced mandarin speaker with all 200 tones correct in a row .... cause this person cannot imagine u can speak chinese ...
... could give u more examples if u are interested, but better in private cause many chinese will deny what i say lol
just an advice for a good teacher: test his or her pinyin abilities ... my first 2 teachers had crappy pinyin so a waste of time ... and see if he knows how to write and explain RADICALS ... its easy to write a 20 stroke character if u know the rules(from top to bottom, from left to right ,from out to in and so on)
and maybe a last an idea BEIJING is the place to find sb with standard putonghua ... not sb studying in Beijing :-)
... and last but not least some words to my chinese friends : u always have exceptions, maybe u are one of them :-)
End of fairytale

2.Practice makes perfect. You need to remember and pronounce those words over and over again. You also can try to write these words many times. It will be more impressing. You also can recognize Chinese subtitles if you can write Chinese words.
3.https://www.italki.com/discussion/133697 Study Chinese with native Chinese speakers. But some Chinese people‘s Mandarin Chinese is bad.Even young people .For example ,someone cannot pronounce “n" and "l" properly who is from hunan湖南 and sicuan四川.Even someone can‘t pronounce “h". Even if someone is well-educated, it still doesn’t mean that person‘s Mandarin Chinese is good.Because someone was influenced by their dialects seriously..So when you practice oral Chinese with someone, please you pay attention to judging whether that person’s Mandarin is okay.
4.You can try to live in China for some months.
5.Watch Mandarin Chinese videos and listen Chinese soft songs.
