Reem
Professional Teacher
Loyal Students

Hello everyone

What do you think is the best way to reward students who take lots of lessons with the same teacher for a long period of time?

What is the best way to motivate them and thank them for being loyal students?

Please share with me your valuable opinions!

Thank you :)

As a student, I don't expect and even don't want a discount from my preferred teachers. Good work deserves to be paid accordingly. I like the idea of Vince and Guyomar: a very personalized lesson. Something the teacher just prepared for me. A topic I'm passionate about but other students might not be interested in.

Honestly, Reem, I don't think that any sort of special reward is required. The reason I like having long-term teachers is because I can count on them to have a good sense of my strengths, weakness, interests, and long-term goals. I certainly don't expect free lessons (and frankly, I'd find it rather awkward if a teacher offered that to me), but I do expect the teacher to have some sort of long-term study plan for me.

Here are a few ideas:

- A free lesson after so many lessons. i.e. 1 free lesson after every 50 (or whatever you think is a good number)

- A small discount for loyal students. i.e. after 50 lessons, receive an ongoing 10% discount for all further lessons

- A free, informal chat in the students target language. i.e. not a lesson, but just a friendly chat to help them practice.

- A very targeted and personal lesson. i.e. spend some time outside of regular lessons (via email or italki messages) finding out one area the student is really interested in such as their favorite hobby. Do some extra research above and beyond what you would normally do and have a very focused lesson on this topic only. Perhaps give this lesson free or at a very big discount.

- Write a very detailed evaluation of your students progress so far and show them where they have really improved after all those lessons. As a student, sometimes we don't realize how far we really have come because we only see the day to day progress which often feels like none (or even going backwards).

- I'm not sure this one is possible, but maybe gift them one lessons worth of italki credits. They can use that to take a free lesson with you or use it to practice with a community tutor.

Good luck, I hope you find some good ideas in this discussion.

My regular teachers treat me really well and that's all I want or need from them. :)
