Why do so many teachers delete their intro videos? It seems like they'd want to keep them for advertising. Also, doesn't italki require them to have one? Anyway, as a student I really appreciate being able to watch a video of a teacher I've never met with.

Perhaps they came to their senses and regretted having added terrible background music, which is often so loud that one can hardly hear what they are saying.

Hi, Aegis, It's possible that we cannot open youtube anymore. Just like me,  my friend in overseas helped me to put my intro video to youtube, but I can't go to youtube to watch my own video at all.  In China, we cannot visit the websites like facebook and youtube...

@Mikkel, I've come across a number of intro videos where the background music is too loud. It does get quite frustrating when trying to get a feel for how the teacher sounds when (s)he speaks and the music overpowers the teacher.

I know quite a few teachers who don't like their introduction videos but put one up with the application because it is required. My guess is some take it down or make it private/unlisted once they have a reliable base of customers and don't actively need new students.

What surprises me more are videos where the teacher is not present. I've looked at a few profiles that have entirely audio presentations, which surprised me because italki has  a rule about appearing in the video, and besides, most students can get a better sense of what the teacher is like and how expressive she/is visually from a video. I guess italki makes exceptions for some situations.

@Sophie I remember that italki includes Youku among the suggestions for video hosting services, is that a viable option?
