What do you expect from Japanese Community tutors? Plus, any funny or nightmare lesson story?

こんにちは、にほんごを べんきょう している みなさん。

Hello, the Japanese language learners,

I'm currently applying to become a community tutor for Japanese language at italki.   And I'm curious about what you expect/hope/wish to Japanese community tutors here.  And do you have any funny or nightmare lesson story to share?

Q1. What kind of lessons would you like to have from a community tutor?

Q2. What kind of materials or skills do you want your tutor use in lessons?

Q3. Any funny or nightmare lesson story?

Q4.  Any other advice or thoughts you can share to a new tutor?

Thank you in advance.

I'm admittedly not that proficient at Japanese quite yet. I guess everyone has different expectations.

Q1. What kind of lessons would you like to have from a community tutor?

I usually want conversation practise, or someone to answer questions like: "I want to say this, how do I do it". I want to be pushed slightly above my ability but not way way above it.

Q2. What kind of materials or skills do you want your tutor use in lessons?

Hasn't really happened yet. I sometimes read the NHK-Easy news when they are within the level of my abilities. Props would be cool though, especially if they're memorable ones.

Q3. Any funny or nightmare lesson story?

They are just usually me talking a lot and butchering the language or staring into space while searching for words. Honestly, all the lessons so far has been quite good.

Q4.  Any other advice or thoughts you can share to a new tutor?

You'll do just fine I think. Be patient with the student, praise them when they're doing good. Make sure to get the feel if the student wants to be corrected constantly or if they feel constant corrections are discouraging. Write your ideas for the lesson in messages beforehand if you have any. Write nice personal reviews, I know I cherish each comment I get.

Best of luck to you!
