what is the difference between "doing" and "making"?

Doing is mostly used for activities like "Doing homework", "Doing exercise" "Doing laundry" or "Doing anything or everything" etc...
Making is used when you create, cause or produce something. Example: you make food, ...make mistakes, or make a new friend. Etc...
