Which one is correct:
What is the date today?
or
What date is it today?

Both of those sentences work grammatically, but usually you can just leave out the word today and just say 'What date is it?' or 'What is the date?' adding today is redundant in English as 'date' already implies that you are asking what day of the month it it is.
