In the context of research, it usually means that you 'prepared' the participants in some way. For example, by showing them a particular type of material first, and then asking them related questions. A much simpler example might be showing people the word "orange" and then asking them to name a vegetable (to see if they picked something orange like a carrot). Hope that helps!
