For me i think reading is the best way and also chatting with different people it helps you alot to memorize the word and not to be forgotten never ever as it is used and u use 

What I used to do was to watch movies in English and stop the movie at a phrase that I did not understand and write it down which would help me to understand the phrase at a later time. By the way, I would watch the movies with subtitles. Also reading out loud helps your brain to become more familiar with the language. Hope this helps, check my profile. I am a tutor. 

Learn the words that involve the things you understand, the things you like to talk about and the new things you want to learn. Don't forget the words involved in conversations with people you want to hear.
