Yesterday I saw a discussion of one girl who asked for the internet resources that could help to learn Ukrainian. I decided to respond her and eventually noticed that my comment with tips turned into a novel:) That’s how was born this discussion.
Travelled back in time when I started to learn English I was addicted to TED. I just visited the TED website and found 47 pages (!!!) with 36 lessons on every page with Ukrainian subtitles. Should be enough to get you started;) By the way, on the first weekend of September will be a live TED-event in Kyiv! So if someone is going to the capital of Ukraine in this period, you already know what the place to visit;) Also in the previous years there was an online stream.
I can’t even imagine how big has been and still is the role of listening music in studying English. I can say the same about the Ukrainian. There is a great resource https://lyricstranslate.com/, where you can type any Ukrainian singer and choose the song. Most of the singers have songs translated into English and transliteration. For example, Onuka (https://goo.gl/x2QX6X), or Okean Elzy (https://goo.gl/kGtFTH), or Jamala (https://goo.gl/KWVFoT). I will not reinvent the wheel - music is a real locomotive in your long way of learning any languages.
Ukrainer – it’s a goldmine for travel-addicted and language-lovers. This is about how to turn from traditional tourist routes to unobvious places and atypical heroes in Ukraine. But this Expedition not only through different regions of Ukraine, it also discovers how different Ukrainian language is. Almost every video has English subtitles. Moreover, it’s a multilingual project. When you enter the website, you can see in the head of it a list with different (I counted 7) languages. This is a volunteer project, so still not every article translated into English.
Hurtom – this is my TOP! This is my Hoverla (the highest mountain in Ukraine;) On this peak every tree, every little rock is alive and breathing with Ukrainian things. Adore Game of Thrones? Here you can find it with Ukrainian voice-over and subtitles. You already listened to Okean Elzy, Jamala, Onuka, but want something new? Here only Ukrainian bands and singers, and for any genre your heart desires. Liked to learn languages through books? Here you can find, for example, the best Ukrainian novel of the last 10 years. And not only a text, but also an audio version, so you don't have to guess how to read a particular word.
I wasn’t surfing the internet in order to make another one long-list with links. As the experience shows, all those saved links in the folder named «English» on 99% you will NEVER OPEN AGAIN.
I bloody well hope this article will be helpful for each next person who decides to learn Ukrainian language;)
