Community TutorSouth African words recently imported into the Oxford English Dictionary - do you know any?
South African words (words that are from languages such as Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa, et al) have been brought into the English language for quite a while. Words such as 'veld' (Afrikaans: grassland) are now in common use.
Recently, even more words have been added. This includes a legal term, voetstoots, which means sold 'as is' when referring to second-hand or used goods. In other words, if there is a defect that you (the seller) either knew about or didn't, the buyer has no come-back.
What about you - do you know any?
