Have you experienced to forget words in your native language because of your second language ?

I remember I have seen a lecture where was said that when you speak several languages you reduce your vocabulary in each language and you are slower when you talk.

I have noticed that sometimes I do not remember some words in my native language that I knew pretty well.

I, too, have experiences that. Sometimes I can't think of a simple translation in my native language. I don't get frustrated, though. Actually, I think of it as an odd sign of progress.

Once, my aunt asked me something and I answered in English, so she didn't understand.  I don't know why I did that.

I have noticed that too!
I also need more time when speaking.
Did you know that your personality changes when you start learning a new language?
I found it very amusing.

Correction to the title: Have you experienced that you forget...Have you [ever] forgotten...have you forgotten...?

I’m so glad I’m not the only one.

Sometimes I’m about to say something in French, then I try to find the English word for it and then can’t find it. I may forget a famous celebrity, while speaking in the language I’m learning or I may create a sentence with Spanish, French and English mixed together. The other day I went to a restaurant with friends and one of them asked me a question in Italian as a joke.  I immediately responded in Italian, but I’ve never studied Italian.  The last straw came when a friend of my mother spoke to me in Twi(A Ghanaian language) and I replied in French. You should have seen her face.

As I was so traumatised by these events, I went to see my doctor, who did a few memory tests and told me not to worry. She spoke in English and I replied in English. Phew!

I know I have a small brain, but this just confirms the lack of space it has.
