Yes it’s a good start but it’s nowhere near enough for you to be proficient in the language. I did the whole course all 4 stages and I even visited Rio and São Paulo But still,struggled. Speaking and learning with native speakers here will help. Plus reading and listening to movies etc. Good luck

I did all 4 levels of Pimsleur (to learn Portuguese). I think it's a great method. Of course, you'll need to do other things: read books, watch movies, speak with natives... But it's a very efficient method. I like the global approach: you learn grammar without realizing it and it gives you a repertoire of whole phrases in context. It's money well spent.
