How can we improve our self-esteem?
"Self-esteem" is the word to describe self-worth or personal values, in other words, how much we love ourselves. I personally feel my self-esteem is very little as I do not have confidence on myself and it is very hard for me to make decisions without advice from others. Also, I hardly give a speech in front of people because of the lack of self-esteem. How much do you have self-esteem? Do you have any experiences or incidence that made you think about self-esteem? How do you think we can improve it?

I think I have the method that you can concern to use. I know your situation that you mentioned in the status, and I think I'm a kind of person like you. But now, I can control mysefl better. Beforehand, I want to ask you a question, Have you ever readed a book named "How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie. In the book, he said that if you was worrying about something, you just sit down, took a paper and wrote some suggestion following by:

I have to force yourself to wonder that: "What is the worst thing you will have if you just keep doing?".

Preparing for the worst thing about finance, emotion, relationship ...

How to improve the worst thing to be better?

If you accept that you are not perfect, if you can't show your everything you have, you will lost everything. Now I also have trouble about verbalizing, but I have change myself because I know I have values and my ability is useful.
You ignore your concernment and limit thinking alot, you just go straight ahead. For 1 week, 1 mouth ... you look at yourself, you will realize that you will be more confident and your value is richer.
If you want, we can chat and help each other better :)))

I think we can improve our self-esteem by treating ourselves and others well, by eating right and exercising, keeping our place tidy and helping people in real life or online. Also it helps if you use positive body language, hold your head high and push your shoulders back and you will feel more in control.

Thank you so much for your supportive comments, everyone!

I came up with this discussion topic because I faced so many situations that made me realize how important "self-esteem" is. Without self-esteem, it is very hard to carry out anything we want to do.

It is said that Japanese people tend to have low self-esteem, and I believe this might be true. I suspect that the Japanese education itself including parenting and schools or maybe Japanese culture itself might be key factors for being less confident on ourselves. This is because Japanese value "harmony". In order to keep harmony, they often keep their honest feeling in their mind or show their humble attitude toward others so that they do not create any bitter feelings of others. I assume that trying not to get a big head to maintain "harmony" consequently reduces self-esteem of Japanese people.

How much do you have your self-esteem? Is it higher or lower comparing to people in other countries? Do you think is it depending on individuals or nationalities? I would love to hear your opinion.

All of the users above mentioned some useful methods and recommended suitable books and movies, so I will suggest a practical method that you should do every day for a while until it becomes a habit.

Start forcing yourself to look at the mirror, smile comfortably, think positively about yourself, use encouragement words, and make sure you do all that while looking tidy and clean. You may feel awkward and silly at first, but it wouldn't be long until you feel confident and happy.

Wish you the best^^
