Hi there.
I'm from Colombia and here, the age of retirement is 65 for man and 63 for the woman. I know people who are retired or near retirement. Some of them prefer to continuing working because they're passionate about their jobs or due to getting a pension in our country is really difficult. Others, who earned a lot of money prefer to enjoy and spend time with their family.
In my country, people are very close to their parents, especially with the elder. Although, there are people who abandon their parents or grandparents because they think they are a big charge for them. I don't agree with that and I think they are ungrateful.
In my opinion, the elder has wisdom, so we have to appreciate and try to learn from them.
