Have You Ever Have A Lesson Rejected Twice?
I'm curious, has anybody had a language lesson rejected by a teacher with no explaination?

Even when you kindly asked them what was the reason and got no response.

Because, I had a lesson with a female teacher that turned out great...I thought lol.

She even told me she looked forward to helping me reach my goals.

The 1st time, I tried to schedule a lesson for 5pm. She changed her schedule to end at 5pm & I thought "maybe something came up".

Then I tried a 2nd time & it was rejected the next day.

Sure it can happen to anyone, I suppose. I’ve had two lesson requests rejected (not the same one twice) — two different teachers (actually, "community tutors"). They explained that the time was inconvenient, yet I had simply selected a time from the schedules that they had established. I never made another attempt to book a lesson with either of them again — obviously. Whether or not the explanations were bogus, I just don’t need to deal with teachers who don’t set up their schedules properly. No big deal — there are plenty of teachers here for us to choose from.

As far as a teacher who has already had a lesson with you and rejects subsequent requests with no explanation… you asked a question, so I'm not going to lie to you or beat around the bush. If she wanted you as a student, she’d probably give you an explanation and invite you to choose another time. If she didn’t want you as a student, she might also give you an explanation, but it would be nonsense. You don’t really expect her to tell you that she didn’t like teaching you, do you? If she intended to give you an explanation, she would, so “kindly ask[ing] them” is not really cool. in any event, do you actually want to take lessons from from a teacher who rejects your lesson requests with no explanation? Like I said, there are plenty of teachers for us to choose from, so you might as well find one who likes you, wouldn’t you agree? Keep looking, and I'm sure you find the perfect teacher (or teachers) for you.

I agree with Phil 100%

As a teacher here, I've probably rejected 3 students max in over 5 years. One students was very sexually inappropriate, one would make slick underhanded rude comments, and the other wanted to laugh and joke and make silly remarks instead of focusing on actually improving his language skills.

I think anyone would reject someone they feel uncomfortable with. Right?

I've never had either of those students ask me why I rejected them...probably because they knew they were in the wrong.

Another thing to think about...maybe she didn't feel she was the best teacher for you. I've had students request things that's out of my area of expertise. For example, teaching kids online. Even though I make it clear my online lessons aren't for kids, every now and then a parent will ask me to do that.

I appreciate everybody's perspective and input. I wasn't sure if it was a common thing or not.

I should've never sent a message asking why. I should've kept moving on

It was a wierd experience; I never expected it to happen. Never had any probs with teachers/tutors ever.

Anyway, thanks again guys for your honesty.

Conversation partners, tutors, and teachers have different personalities and different approaches to unpleasant situations. Some people avoid unpleasant situations by "disappearing."

I was recently dropped by a French teacher without explanation and without communication after about 20 lessons. I believe my "error" was sending an email suggesting that we purchase matching copies of a suitable grammar book and that I would happily pay for her copy. The result was a package termination request from her and no further communication.

So not all teachers are good communicators.

I have rejected a few students that I was not comfortable because of their behaviour. I told them (and wrote them) that I was the wrong teacher for them and that they should find a different teacher. Surprisingly, a few of them requested more lessons and I had to refuse again.
