HSK 5, strange jump in difficulty or just me ( PLZ read)
I just passed HSK 4, did pretty well to be honest.
I have now moved onto HSK 5, but unlike 4, apart from the new words there no English whatsoever.

Where I could study HSK 4 independently , I am finding HSK 5 impossible. The grammar notes for example use words you haven't come across making the meaning difficult to extract.

Is this normal?
Is my level just not where it should be?

Hi! Of course HSK 5 more difficult, but i passed it and I prepared for the exam in a year. Btw I am sure that you can prepare in less time. I also can reccomend the books that i used if you want. The secret to successfully learning many languages is patience and systematic. It is better to study, but every day.
然后,如果你想更快速地提高汉语听力水平,就必须需要听广播也看电视剧(电影),听歌曲。

I think it's completely normal. HSK 5 is a huge step up from HSK 4 and in my opinion it takes years. I've passed HSK 5 three times and have moved on to HSK 6 but I'm now actually going back to HSK 5 to consolidate and build my confidence. There is absolutely no shame in this. Chinese is an ocean and HSK 5 is like the Atlantic...don't even ask about HSK 6!

I passed HSK4 a few years ago. I actually studied the HSK5 materials first - for at least a year or two! - but never felt fully prepared. I kept telling people, "well, I'm almost ready, just, not yet" about the HSK5. Years of studying but still not feeling prepared.

Eventually I got frustrated enough with HSK5 materials that I decided to look at the HSK4 materials. The HSK4 materials seemed much more accessible. I can only speak from my own experience so I can't say whether it's "normal" or not, but yes, HSK5 seemed much harder than HSK4.

Congrats on passing the HSK4!
