YOLO: The good and the bad things about this mantra..”Carpe Diem”

I started sports in the most unexpected way because I met people during a hiking trip who emulates the lifestyle that is Instagram-worthy but impractical. Our group leader at that time was a former teacher who stopped working for a year to climb mountains. He has many followers and a blog that was named as one of the most influential hiking blogs in my country. Despite a huge following, what happens behind the scenes is different. He has no job, no house, no savings and relies on what he earns in organized tours. The team he has created has the same mentality, the YOLO mentality which is worthy of doing, in my opinion occasionally.

The women in the team are more responsible in the sense that we maintained our day jobs, save money and go on adventures from time to time, but not consistently. “Carpe Diem, ” he whispered while drinking a cup of black coffee, and the backdrop is a picturesque view of mountain waterfalls. From that point, I knew that even if I love that team, I must leave and create my own journey.

The YOLO mentality became a cultural sensation. It is fondly called a millennial thing and also young adults living life to the fullest. There is no age restriction of course. However, it is good to keep in mind that we must also prepare for our future while living life to the fullest.

'Carpe diem' and 'yolo' do not mean the same. The free lifestyle is yolo, 'carpe diem' rather means not to waste your time. Going out and partying is not what 'carpe diem' means.

I can understand the thought behind the phrase 'Carpe diem'. the free lifestyle that some have. but I think the key is to find the balance between freedom and stability. There are people who live in the moment without thinking about their future and there are others who make their passion their job and generate enough income and they can live very well without losing freedom. Not everyone can maintain a routine life, a job with a boss, etc. That is why I believe that the perfect thing is to make your passion your job.

@Alex 알렉스 Yes Alex, I know it is different. I mentioned Carpe Diem in the title because my friend is a blogger, a hiker and a traveler and he always emphasizes Carpe Diem. But of course , thank you for pointing it out. I should not put it on the title. The YOLO mentality is not always about wasting your time partying because traveling, doing sports and in other hobbies, you can also use this mantra.

@Patricia Balance is really important in life. I have met some people who live in the extremes and although I can see that they enjoy their life, I am also perplexed on why they are not worried. Saving money is important and as we get older, the more money we need.
