Mass Appeal: What is appealing in your country? (In terms of products and people)
The success of a person and a product depend highly on “Mass Appeal.” Products like McDonalds and Facebook have Mass Appeal, Celebrities like Oprah and Rachel Zoe have Mass Appeal. They are relatable, not necessarily gorgeous but people can easily walk up to them and say Hi without feeling small. Products who have Mass Appeal usually are sold at reasonable prices, some apps are not as appealing as Facebook and only cater to a few.

Big Network companies in my country also chooses artist who have mass appeal because they are investing money. At the end of the day, it is business. An artist can be talented and beautiful but if the masses feel that she looks aristocratic then they are highly not going to watch. I think it is the same with the success of some clothing brands such as Uniqlo and H&M. Uniqlo is a Japanese brand that is even more famous outside of Japan because the minimalism it sells is what people want to buy

Saying all this, I do not know what is appealing to other countries, I know some but not all. I know that in China, people love celebrities who have a certain look, white and porcelain skin. In the US, someone who looks like Jennifer Lopez has a higher chance to succeed (Tan, beautiful and voluptuous). There is what we call the “Latina fever.” The Kardashians found huge success all over the world, but they are not appealing to Chinese people, it would be extremely difficult for them to gain fame in China because they do not fit the mold of what they find as attractive.

What is Appealing to your country in terms of…

A.People-- In my country, Angelic faces and funny people are appealing. People who look too classy and too wealthy is unrelatable, given that my country is a poor country, unless the person has charisma. A typical rich girl or boy look will not make the cut in the industry of showbizness. It is the same in person and for regular people. People who look unapproachable and too intelligent has very minimal mass appeal. Celebrities who look approachable, not necessarily beautiful gained millions of followers in a span of 2 years. In my country, a third world country, people like the rags to riches stories and damsel in distress types of characters.

B. Products-- Korean products have mass appeal in my country. There is an obsession actually. Affordable products and some good quality brands that is globally popular (not all of course).

What is Mass Appeal?
By its very definition, mass appeal is the near ubiquitous approval of someone or something. For example, Facebook is a social media platform with mass appeal. This kind of mass appeal can be thought to be enjoyed by many things: Christmas, pop music, chocolate, etc. (COPIED VERBATIM from GOOGLE)

@Guyomar  Sad but true, substance is dying. It's all bout looks, clothes, comedy and entertainment. Good content even on Youtube do not get a lot of views, documentaries and scientific content. Most would like to watch someone do useless things. Indie films do not thrive well in my country, most would want to watch films with a predictable ending.

@Andreas Well, at least you are honest.

@Guyomar -- Well said, in my country people follow the trend so much and buy stuff because everyone is wearing it, even without careful consideration whether it fits them or not. Like the cake that your mom baked, people usually avoid stuff with the best ingredients because it means that it is expensive.
