Interesting Quote
In think Winston Churchill said this, but whoever did, I like it: “Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about.”

Sort of makes you think. What does this mean? But, I think it is eerily meaningful, in an odd sort of way.

I can't stop thinking about the global environment and climatic conditions.
I think about it every day.
I always try to think of ways that I can do my little part to reduce my carbon footprint and not contribute to environmental pollution.
So, I can’t go a day without thinking about it.

And since I can't stop thinking about it, I should never give up on thinking about it, and my lifestyle, and whether I'm helping or hurting my beloved planet.

If we are to take Mr Churchill's quotation seriously, then I believe we could find many examples of our activities and actions that could definitely apply to this brilliant quotation.

Meaning: If you have a goal or a dream or a strong desire, and if you think about it every day (which indicates how important it is to you), then you should never give up on pursuing your goal, dream or desire.

Good post SHL...

"without thinking about" I don't think Winston thought all day and every day about his next drink or cigar, which is why I think it means something else.
Whether it was just general thought provoking advice from Winnie or some obscure reference to him thinking about the matters of the day, I don't think we will ever know.

That's true enough. He never gave up drinking himself. It's well known that he couldn't live a day without his whisky.

@ Richard, and @ John. Excellent answers.

No, I don’t think Winnie was making a joke about his drinking and smoking here. That would have been far too banal for him. He was a much deeper thinker than this. There is something somewhat hidden in what he said, almost like a poem, but you really have to give it thought to tease it out. It’s a quite profound remark really.

Good job both you guys in giving the deeper answers to this somewhat puzzling quote.

You might well be right. Churchill was a heavy drinker and smoker, although a high functioning drinker.

But, for some odd reason I think there’s more to this quote than meets the eye. Sure, it can be interpreted as just a joke, but it’s more profound when you take it seriously. There are some social causes I can’t go a day without thinking about, and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. And they are serious issues. Not jokes.
