Connotation ofใจย็น
The Word for calm ใจเย็น means literally "cold heart". In Western culture this has a negative connotation. How do Thai people perceive it?

ใจเย็น literally means calm down NOT cold heart!
It can be used when you're trying to calm yourself down or telling someone to be calm.
For example if im being angry I would try to calm myself down by saying ใจเย็นๆ to myself.
We mainly use it to turn unhealthy situation to a positive vibe.
Hope that helps.

The word "เย็น" literally means "cool" instead of "cold" which should match "หนาว".
Anyway, from my perspective, "เย็น" refer to something "peaceful", "static", "stillness", in which,
I think it should be the result of staying away from "heat" or "flame" that represent "rush", "restlessness".
Many other words with "เย็น" means such a way: ร่มเย็น(peaceful+happy), เย็นใจ(worry-free), เย็นไว้/เย็นเข้าไว้ (stay calm!)

I think I understand your point
Western culture’s cold heart can be translated in Thai as ใจดำ or ใจแข็ง which literally mean black heart or hard heart.
As for ใจเย็น has no such meaning.
Hope that helps
