I think you mean 侧, not 测.

侧边，侧面 都有side的意思，but the difference is very subtle.

Imagine there is a boxy house in front of you and you are facing the main entrance. 房子的侧面和侧边both mean the left or right side of the house. But, since 面 literally means "surface", if you say 房子的侧面, I would more likely think that you're only talking about the surface of the side wall. For example, 房子的侧面是蓝色的，房子的侧面有个窗户。In contract, if you say 房子的侧边有一棵树, I'd think you mean that there is a tree next to the side of the house. So 侧边 is more often used to describe the area in the vacinity of the side, but usually 侧面 only refers to the side surface.

You can also say 一侧，一面，一边。房子的一边/一侧有一棵树，both mean that there is a tree next to one side of the house. But it is not clear which side you're talking about, could be either the left of the right side. (Sidenote: 两侧or 两边 means both sides of the house). 房子的一面有窗户，means there is a window or are windows on one wall of the house, but which wall is not identified. It could be the front wall or the back wall, or either of the side walls. This is because 面 itself does not have the meaning of "side".

侧 I would connect to 侧面＝the side of, 侧边 side next to...,

面 = surface of something. 一面＝one side of something, 两面 ＝both sides to Whole cover of surface...

边= edge of something. For example. Rectangle contains four straight side and four angles. 四边形包含了四个边和四个角。sometimes it means border. 边境，边框，edge＝ 边缘。

I admit many situations are referring to side but in Chinese they are different to point abstracted positions.
