Sadly, Albert Uderzo, the illustrator of the beloved comic series Asterix (Astérix le Galouis) passed away today (24 of March 2020): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix;. The writer René Goscinny who created the witty stories, already passed away in 1977. Though, Uderzo continued publishing new volumes on his own, the ones created by Goscinny and Uderzo together were the best and most memorable. The books were translated into over 100 languages and certainly my and other generations of young readers grew up with these stories. As my first foreign language was Latin, I enjoyed the Latin quotes that were scattered around the books. From today's point of view, one could say that the many ethnic, cultural and religious stereotypes were not politically correct. Talking about stereotypes, here's the trailer of the movie Asterix and Obelix in Britain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzFkhMp7MOs; (French with English subtitles).

Did you read Asterix when you were a kid? In which language? What was you favourite character and what your favourite story? Are there any quotes, you'd like to share?

Hi Miriam, I thought I had to write this discussion, too. But you have been faster than me hahaha. Asterix was my favourite comic when I was a kid. My mother bought the whole collection to me. I read it in Spanish and my favourite character is Obelix, as strong as innocent.

Pepe, yeah, Obelix is a more interesting character than Asterix. I love heroes with a flaw.
