An assassin is usually someone who is hired or paid to do the killing. A murderer is someone who is guilty of killing another person. A "slayer" is a way to describe a killer who is particularly ruthless or evil. A killer is almost the same, but the word slightly less drastic than "slayer" (not as much emphasis with this word).
