From one point of view it is nice to meet new people, learn their native languages and cultures, but it becomes a real problem when there are some obstacles to studying a foreign language properly, mostly of a psycological character. Some people feel embarrased when they are not understood or they themselves do not catch their interlocutor s idea. What is the way out?
I really like Thara's comment! That is great advice! Thank you so much. I have this problem too. I love learning other languages but I am always nervous to talk to strangers in a foreign language, I am scared they will think I sound like my pronunciation is bad or they will act like I don't think they can speak English and might feel insulted. But people usually have been nice and usually always love to talk to me in their language. But I had some other Americans make fun of my French before and I have been scared to speak it out of fear of being made fun of.
Thank you so much for your opinion. I think it really works!
When I was learning Russian, a guy made fun of my pronunciation. I felt humiliated and it's become my complex.
Then I thought, it's not my problem, at least I tried and making a mistake actually takes you to another step in learning progress. In fact it's his problem that he couldn't accept the fact that I was learning his native language. He should have tried to understand and help.
so make mistakes, learn from them, don't be shy to ask people to repeat and say " I don't understand' ( If your sentence isn't understandable, try to change words or structures insteading of feeling embarrassed), ignore people who make you feel down and always be positive:)
I think to learn culture is the most important way.
I feel embarrased but i don't give up .When you feel that your non-native language is good enough to be understood by native language i think you're who make the first obstacle against you :)
Expect the Little Not to feel despair . The greatest thing to find someone who don't tell you much that i can't get what you say . I Prefer to try to get what he want to say and let him to speak even he/she makes mistakes to make him feel confident .
