The second type of TOEFL Reading Questions is the Negative Factual Information Questions. This type of question is used to ask yu to verify what information is true and what information is NOT true or NOT included in the passage.
To answer this type of question, first locate the relevant infmation in the passage. Then verify that thre of the four answer choices are true and that the remaining choice is FALSE. A special tip to remember her is that the correct answer is the one that is NOT true.
How to recognize Negative Factual Information Questions:
The "NOT" or "EXCEPT" appears in the question in capital letters.
Example:
Passage Excerpt:
"The United States in the 1800's was full of practical, hardworking people who did not consider the arts-from theater to painting-useful occupations. In addition, the public's attitude that European art was better than American art bot discourage and infuriated American artists. In the aearly 1900's there was a strong feeling among artists that the United States was long overdue in developing art that did not reproduce European traditions. Everybody agreed that the heart and soul of the new country should be reflected in its art. But opinions differed about what this art would be like and how it would develop."

Choose the correct answer:
A) Most Americans thought art was unimportant.
B) American art generally copied European styles and traditions

You are correct . It is D. I am glad you were able to learn two new vocabulary words.
There were two new words for me in this discussion.
1. To infuriated means to make someone extremely angry
2. Inferior means lower in rank, status, or quality.
The first time I read it, I was not sure between B and D.
But after the second read, I am pretty sure that the answer is D.
