Is originality dead in the modern age?

This painting is titled "Not Picasso" by Mike Bidlo. (http://www.terminartors.com/artworkprofile/Bidlo_Mike-Not_Picasso)

This looks like a copy of the original painting by Picasso. But hey, who can create out of nothing?

I'm saying that everything humans do is necessarily derivative. Originality is not about new ideas, it is about combining old ideas into new combinations. And this painting does just that. The artist is probably trying to communicate a ship of Theseus of sorts, hence the name of the painting. What makes a Picasso painting a Picasso painting? That's what this is about. Ceci n'est pas un picasso.

Thank you guys for your comments!

@Der Terminator

Let me see if I understand your point. Are you saying originaliy has long been dead since the old times?

What consititues originality? And what constitutes creativity in your opinion?

@Katie

Would you mind elaborating on your point? So, you think originaliy is not dead??

Lastly, Do you think this painting "Not Picasso" is a piece of art? (This is like an exact copy of the original one.)

Of course not .ıf ever you say that it is not dead then it is not in original!

Exactly. Making a fuss about 'originality' is not original anyway. And many artists still produce very creative work. It's not fair to single out our time period with either praise or criticism. Another interesting topic, elanvital!
