Last name or surname?
hi everyone i¨m new making discussions , i´ve never undestard what´s the diferens about this because when i was in the school my teachers always said last name but i read and i found SURNAME and has the same meaning but i don understand yet, someone could help me to understand the diferece in the conversation.

"Sur" in surname came from a French word meaning "over" or "above". Maybe this suggests that the surname is the more important name, compared to the given name that is chosen by one's parents. Anyway, family name, surname, and last name all mean the same thing in English (at least in a "western" context).
