Wie kann man Deutsch lernen?

This question is for people who are at least at a basic or intermediete level of German (being there second language). How have you gotten so far? What exactly do you use to study and what keeps you motivated? I am still a beginner but have learned quite a bit from a German software program, but now I feel that these lessons are too boring and are not helping me improve at a good rate. I know there are other methods of learning but want someones personal experience with what works for them. Danke!

Hi,

I have been learning german for 4 months and I have used two softwares so far. I must say that Tell me more is a very good software for learning a language but its definitely not for absolute beginners, since you are not an absolute beginner you might want to give it a try (google tell me more and take a 7 day trial). Second thing that is helping me so better than anything else is Deutsche Welle's german language program, its upto B2 level and is quiet impressive. The third thing is playing some computer games like Sherlock Holmes or Postmortom etc. And the fourth is talking to german speakers.

I hope to learn quickly and wish the same to you.

Have a nice day.

I agree as well on Deutsche Welle.  "Deutsch:  Warum Nicht?" and "Radio D" helped me quite a bit and they are fun to listen to.

I read as much as I can as well.  Charlie und die Schokoladenfabrik and Harry Potter were two of my first books and they were a lot of fun.  Get the audiobooks as well if you can.

The most important thing has already been mentioned.  Use the language.  Get an email pen pal, a skype partner, join a real-life meet-up group, but use the language as much as you can.  Google+ hangouts are also very useful for practice.

use the language. if possible, almost daily. talk to someone in German, write something, message someone, read an article & discuss it,  learn some new words and right away put them into a text or conversation...even 5-10 minutes a day are better than nothing. and it's more motivating if you have interaction and not just learn on your own (for most people). :)

and yeah, deutsche welle is great!

...being  "their" --not there ----second language... ( I think ) -- I use the New Berlitz book for beginners prescribed by my local Goethe Institute...
