have an influence on... OR have influence on...
I've looked the word "influence"up in the dictionary.
There is a phrase example "to have a strong influence on sb" in Oxford Advanced Leaner's English-Chinese Dictionary. However, in MACMILLAN Dictionary, there is another sentence example: Teachers have considerable influence over what is taught in the classroom. There isn't a "the" between "have" and "influence".
So how on earth do native speakers use the word "influence"???
