In this article, we cover some interesting uses of the French verb “tenir”. I bet you didn’t suspect how far reaching your vocabulary already was!
A really useful and comprehensive article. Just one thing - could I suggest a translation for use number 5 ? If you say 'consists of one sentence', you mean that the conclusion is literally only one sentence long. 'Tenir' in this sentence seems to be an exact equivalent of 'can be summed in'.
La conclusion de ce livre tient en une phrase = The conclusion of this book can be summed up in one sentence.
Une article très interessante et très utile. Je t'en remercie.
A really useful article. Just one point though, as a native (British) English speaker I would never say 'Courage'. The correct translation for courage in the 2 instances given would be 'Hold on'
"En tenir une bonne" can be useful in bars ;)
I liked it very much. Now I can use this verb properly. Thank you!
