I received a standard italki request for language partner (and no additional information). I looked up the other person's profile. Strangely, the person is also a native speaker of English similar to myself. Usually, I would reply with a polite message but there is no option to give a direct written reply. I can only accept the request, ignore (seems rude without a reply), or report as a spammer.
What happened to the messaging option?
I think it is more reasonable to leave it without replying. If the person is serious to have you then she/he will message you and explain all. Maybe it is not a real account!
I think it will appear after you accept the message because only his friends/people who also follow him can send him messages. I think you can accept the request, send him a message, and then unfriend him and wait for a reply, if you feel like it.

It maybe a spammer. It's very common on this site. So, don't worry about it. Obviously, that person doesn't have any intention to exchange languages, just wants to add contacts as if this site were Twitter.
